Chiral Column Screening

When using chromatography to separate chiral compounds, chiral compounds with different structures can only be resolved by using different chiral columns. If the structure of the compound is innovative, the column must be screened. Structural similarity does not guarantee similar behavior of chiral stationary phases. If no exact match is found, the column must be screened. BOC Sciences has experienced chiral chromatography experts who provide cost-effective and efficient screening services. We can recommend the best column you need based on your screening system and plan. We are happy to provide analytical and preparative chiral column screening services to help you find the most suitable column and conditions.

Our Advantages

  • Selection of columns according to screening system and plan
  • A variety of stationary and mobile phases from high-polarity systems to non-polar systems
  • Durable columns and do not need to be dedicated to a single mobile phase system
  • An experienced team of experts who provide professional guidance and advice

Chiral column is a special kind of chromatographic column. By introducing a chiral environment to change the physical characteristics of the enantiomers, the separation and detection of the enantiomers can be realized. Chiral columns are made of optically active monomers fixed on silica gel or other polymers to make chiral stationary phases. Common chiral stationary phases are mainly polysaccharide derivatives, such as cellulose and cyclodextrin. According to the chemical structure of the stationary phase, chiral columns are divided into the following types:

Classification of chiral columnsFig.1 Classification of chiral columns

There are dozens of commercially available chiral columns, of which there are about 12 to 14 types of commonly used chiral columns, which can successfully separate 90% of chiral compounds. Some chiral columns can separate 5% of chiral compounds. Various types of chiral columns can be divided into analytical columns and preparative columns.

Analytical Column

The objective of the analytical column is analysis. It can perform semi-micro analysis, routine analysis, and even semi-preparative field analysis. If you want to set up a chiral screening system for chromatography, it is essential to select the correct chiral column.

Preparative Column

The goal of a preparative column is preparation, which is mainly used for enriching or purifying the target compound from the mixture for further research or commercial use. If you plan to develop a chiral preparation project, you may need screening services for preparative chiral columns.
